Rüsselsheim. Opel OnStar, the personal connectivity and service assistant is coming. In Germany, the peace of mind offered by OnStar can be ordered for all new models ranging from ADAM to Insignia from mid-June. Opel passenger cars will then offer a range of new services and functions that subscribers will be able to use free of charge for the first 12 months. “The Opel brand will set new standards in connectivity and personal services with OnStar. Opel is redefining luxury because from now on, every Opel driver will have his personal assistant available at the touch of a button. Wi-Fi will be available as well,” said Opel CMO Tina Müller.

The Opel OnStar highlights are:

  • Automatic crash response (SOS) including 24-hour emergency service hotline and roadside assistance
  • Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot with high-speed data connection and for up to seven devices
  • Smartphone app for remote control, for example, remotely locking or unlocking the car
  • Stolen Vehicle Assistance
  • Vehicle Diagnostics including monthly email with an update on the most important vehicle systems such as airbags or transmission
  • Destination download which allows an OnStar Advisor to transmit an alternative route, a restaurant or a specific address to the Opel in-car navigation system.

Eight easy-to-understand animated films now show exactly how all of these features work; a ninth called ‘Opel OnStar Registration’ will follow at the end of the month. Each light-hearted clip deals with a specific OnStar service and sums it up neatly. The videos will initially be available in German and English on YouTube and the Opel websites. French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish and Portuguese versions will follow shortly. Furthermore, the videos will be used during a dealer training so that no questions will be left unanswered when the order books open.
