Rüsselsheim/London. Opel/Vauxhall sent a strong line-up to this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon: Opel’s marathon man Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann tackled the course with CFO Michael Lohscheller, fitness expert Sonja von Opel and five colleagues from British sister brand Vauxhall. The team took to the challenging course through London on behalf of Worldwide Cancer Research with around 35,000 other athletes from around the globe and mastered it successfully in cool but mainly dry conditions.
“Marathons are my passion – and obviously running on a course with iconic buildings such as Tower Bridge and Big Ben makes it very special,” said Neumann after crossing finishing line close to Buckingham Palace. “I am very happy with the result. My ‘personal coach’ Sonja von Opel prepared me for the event in numerous training runs. Obviously, it was still hard work,” admitted a tired but proud Opel CEO.
Sonja von Opel is an expert for endurance sports, especially for running and triathlon. The great-great-granddaughter of the founder of the Rüsselsheim-based carmaker has not only completed numerous marathons but she also successfully finished the Ironman in Zurich. The trio consisting of Sonja von Opel, Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann and Michael Lohscheller was also running for a good cause in the English capital. Worldwide Cancer Research fund are pioneersof early-stage research into any type of cancer, anywhere in the world. The London Marathon started with around 8,000 participants in 1981 has since become the biggest annual fundraiser in the world.
